The National Institute of Conductive Education offers the following services:

Short-term places are available at certain times in both early years and school groups.

The aims
School Services aim to provide children with cerebral palsy with a comprehensive education. Within a Conductive Education framework, conductors work with children to develop their movement skills, speech and communication skills, cognitive functions, intellectual skills, self-care and social skills.

Academic programmes are delivered through the pre-school curriculum based on desirable outcomes (Early Years) and the National Curriculum (school-aged children). These have been skilfully integrated with the requirements of Conductive Education to provide access to a broad and balanced curriculum.

All children have their own particular set of goals which will be worked towards within the group environment. Overall aims may include:
  1. developing child's range and control of movement.
  2. developing child's abilities in self-help skills such as dressing, feeding and toileting.
  3. developing the child's social and daily living skills.
  4. developing child's expressive and receptive language skills.
  5. providing opportunities to study a broad and balanced curriculum at appropriate levels of understanding.
  6. working with parents to develop appropriate ways to encourage the child's learning within the home.
  7. liaising with other professionals as appropriate.
Throughout the learning programme Conductive Education seeks to encourage children's active learning, transforming their ability to overcome the problems they face in everyday life and creating the potential for independent thinking and activity.

A review of each child's placement takes place annually, usually in the summer term (this may be more frequent in special cases). The National Institute co-operates fully with parents, local education authorities and local schools in preparing each child for transfer to the next stage of education. Following this, the National Institute's follow-up service ensures smooth transition and an ongoing service for the child as required.

Families of children attending a short-term course are provided with a written report on the child's progress as well as advice and support on how to build on the progress that has been made at the National Institute.
