The Foundation for Conductive Education

ACE Project at Great Barr Primary School

The ACE Project
at Great Barr Primary School

Access to Conductive Education (ACE) is a two year pilot project funded from the following voluntary sources by The Foundation for Conductive Education:

An anonymous donor
The St James’s Place Foundation
The Equitable Charitable Trust
H S A Charitable Trust
Help a Local Child (BRMB)
The Norton Foundation
The Douglas Turner Trust
The John Avins Trust
The Mackintosh Foundation
The Ratcliff Foundation
Edward & Dorothy Cadbury Trust
The Harry Payne Trust
Henry James Sayer Charity

The project started in February 2006, and Istvan Szucs is the highly experienced conductor-in-charge overseeing its work at Great Barr Primary School (www.grtbarr.bham.sch.uk) enabling children to develop in all areas of their learning and personality.

This is achieved by working with the children, their families, school staff and other professionals including a physiotherapist, an educational psychologist and a speech and language therapist.

Children benefiting from the project at present have conditions such as cerebral palsy, dyspraxia, autistic spectrum disorder, hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy, and previously conjoined twins.

Families of the 16 children taking part in the project and school staff have said that changes have been profound for many of the children.

They have seen improvements in:

Confidence
Self Esteem
Motivation
Stamina and Endurance
Movement Coordination
Concentration
Ability to participate more fully in National Curriculum activities including handwriting and ICT
Social interaction
Independence in Self-care activities
