The story so far...
Standing up for Joe

The Foundation for Conductive Education was established in 1986 following the BBC documentary Standing up for Joe.

The programme focused on a young British boy with cerebral palsy attending the Petö Institute in Hungary. Following its broadcast, more than 11,000 enquiries flooded the BBC asking why Conductive Education was not available in the UK. The parental pressure group RACE (Rapid Action for Conductive Education) was formed to lobby parliament and, with the backing of a wide support base, the Foundation was born in 1986.

Since its conception the Foundation has achieved more than anyone imagined. It was the first organisation to train British conductors at the Petö Institute and to set up conductive facilities for children and adults outside Hungary. It has established the world's only open-access library on Conductive Education and pioneered the degree qualification for conductors in the UK.

All these services are now housed in the Foundation's centre of excellence, The National Institute of Conductive Education, opened by Diana, Princess of Wales in 1995. Today the Foundation continues to provide financial support for the long-term development of Conductive Education and the expansion programme of the National Institute.

The Foundation for Conductive Education is a registered charity dependent upon a mix of grants, range of charitable resources, donations and fundraising.

If you or your organisation would like to become involved in supporting the work of the Foundation for Conductive Education we would be glad to hear from you.
