Qualifications of conductors The basic Hungarian professional qualification in Conductive Education is called an oklevél (award). It is very difficult to compare the relative level of academic/professional qualifications between countries. As a general indicator, the level of the Petö Institute’s oklevél lies below the level of an English first degree (i.e. below a Batchelor’s). Colleges and universities in all counties are used to processing applications from applicants with foreign degrees and will have access to published guides on relative academic levels between countries. Most will be pleased to offer informal advice. The oklevél is awarded in three grades:
This is entered on the title page (ie the page that gives the conductor's name, date of birth etc, on the last line but one).
The content of the training has changed considerably over the years and, according to the date of qualification, the holder of the oklevél may also be recognised as an elementary school teacher within the Hungarian school system. Some more experienced conductors may also hold qualifications additional to the oklevél.
Students from NICE/Wolverhampton University with a BA Honours Degree, which is classified in the way normal for degrees in the United Kingdom:
This university degree incorporates both the academic side of the students' study and the practice of Conductive Education. Additionally, honours graduates on this course are recognised by the Foundation for Conductive Education as holding Qualified Conductor Status (QCS), the grades of which recognise students' achievement in conductive practise.
The Keele University course awarded a BSc Honours, classified in the same way. In addition, graduates were awarded oklevél by the Peto Institute.
In all cases, as you would when considering any applicant for a post, ask to see copies of the relevant documents to assure yourself that everything is in order. |
