Our conversational café is an informal session to help improve speech for stroke survivors. Re-learning speech is a complex task and for many can be stressful as the focus is on trying to articulate words in isolation. In the conversational café stroke survivors support each other and with additional help from the conductor use language in an everyday context. By adding real meaning to language and providing a relaxed setting we have found that many stroke survivors start to initiate conversation and think of ways of introducing ideas and stories they want to share.
These sessions last for 1 hour and are FREE to participants attending the conductive reablement sessions. They provide an added dimension to rehabilitation within a secure environment. Conductors will also know the participants and can link their development during the rehabilitation sessions to their development of language.
